At the start of the war Japan did not want the U.S. entering the war so they would not push there limits in Asia by extended Japans land. Japan did not like this, so they sent battle ships and air planes that were known as Zeros/two waves to Pearl Harbor to bomb the United States navel forces, the command came from there new imperial leader Hideki Tojo. The Planes was bullet proof, but all turned when the United States got there planes in the air. There was not many U.S. Planes in the air, but it was enough to draw Japans forces back.
After the attack on Pearl Harbor, America was ferrous with Japan, so in return Roosevelt made a speech and asked congress in the hole United States to go to war with Japan. The vote in congress was 388 to 1 for the U.S. to go to war. If not known the same person that voted against going to war in World War II was the same person to vote against war in World War I.
