Home Front of America
In the U.S., unlike other places, the war was a good investment. Though many troops died, the American switch from peace time industry to war industry made the economy boom, and dragged the Americans out of the Great Depression.
To save the resources, America was rationing, and people were given stamps to for rations. these rations included everything from consumable goods to things such as oil and gas.
Due to the American men being sent off to war, more women started to take over the men's positions in both industry and sports. Women made up 25% of the work force I USA before the war, and grew to 36%. They took over the war industry when it boomed, but also had to take over the industries that makes America work, in war or not. for entertainment, there was made a women's league for the most popular sport at the time, baseball. Sadly, when the men returned, the women's league slowly dissolved.
To increase the American morale, and war support, the government sold war bands which raised money, and from the radio, the biggest media at the time, people wound listen to patriotic songs.

Home Front of Britain
In WWII the Great Britain was in big trouble. From being used to importing 55 million tons of food each year, they only imported 12 million tons form October 1939. There was also shortages of clothes and other tradable goods. This led Britain to reuse and ration. Due to the shortages, one of the most popular products on the British black market, was SPAM, which today seem to many as gross. The rationing continued throughout the war, but the damage made in the British economy made them ration until 1954.
Not only did the shortages change the British living standards, but another thing that contributed to the standards were the Blitz. The Blitz was a German bombing campaign, which from 7 September 1940 - 10 May 1941 killed more than 43,000 British civilians. This was what caused the British children to be evacuated to the country, where the bombs were less likely to hit.

Home Front of Germany
Before the war broke out, Germany was in a huge war debt. They had gotten all the blame for WWI from the Treaty of Versailles. While Germany was in ruins, Hitler raised to power, and was loved by many due to being a charismatic speaker and leader. Hitler's party, the Nazi party, was against Jews, and the Jew hate spread fast, and Jews were treated like outcasts and sent to concentration camps.
During the war, Germany's larger cities were often under a bombing campaign, and several thousands were killed by U.S. and British bombs.
Hitler made jobs for people, mainly in the military, and he spread fear. The fear was caused by the fact that he didn't want anyone to go against him. This made the SS kill or imprison people against Hitler.
So while the German military grew stronger, the home front suffered.

Home Front of Japan
In Japan, the living standards didn't change drastically during the war, with the exception of bombing campaigns. While the Japanese sought to expand their empire, America sought to stop them, and make sure they were limited in their access to China.
What Americans feared was that almost any Japanese citizen saw it as honorable to die for their emperor. This made a lot more people dangerous. This is also one of the reasons why America started bombing campaigns in Japan.
The bombing campaigns made sirens go off in major cities, so the Japanese people knew when to watch out. The Japanese came to the point where they almost always thought it was just a drill, and kept on with their lives.

Home Front of the Soviet Union
I the Soviet Union, bot men and women were doing a great war effort. Sadly for the Soviets though, was the extreme shortage of food and clothing. At the peak of the war, the individual soldier got more rations than the individual citizen in the Soviet union. This led to mass theft of ration cards and food. In the end, people in the USSR were reduced to eating pets such as dogs and cats.
An example of how bad the rationing was, is when the siege was going on in Leningrad, then other than the several hundreds of thousands of the people who died of bombings, 1,000,000 Soviets died from either starvation or cold. This means that more than half of Leningrad's 3,000,000 died.
